Certified Translations for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
If you're submitting documents to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and they’re not in English or French, they must be translated by a certified translator.
A certified translator is someone in good standing with a recognized professional translation association in Canada or abroad. Their certification is usually confirmed by a stamp or seal that includes their membership number.
If the translation is done in Canada
You should use a certified translator who is officially recognized by their provincial or territorial association and certified to translate documents.
If the translation is done outside of Canada
You must use a translator who is accredited in the country where the translation is completed.
For all applicants, whether inside or outside Canada
Translations cannot be completed by the applicant, a member of the applicant’s family, or the applicant’s representative or consultant.
Note: Translators who are still in the process of becoming certified or accredited do not qualify as certified translators for IRCC purposes.
